Linocut Workshop: Printing on Paper and Bags

 

Linocut / block printing on bags – a technique for creating your own designs by carving motifs into linoleum, which are then printed onto canvas bags or paper. Participants learn how to design patterns, transfer them onto a matrix, carve precisely, and then apply ink to create unique prints. This method makes every bag individual and one-of-a-kind, while allowing participants to experiment with repeating patterns, color contrasts, and different printing effects.

What we will create: a personalized canvas bag with a unique design and a print sample on paper

Materials: canvas bags, linoleum/matrix, printing inks
Tools: linocut gouges, rollers, sponges, test paper

Workshop activities:

Designing a pattern and transferring it onto the matrix

Carving the design into linoleum

Printing the design on the bag and test paper

Finished bag ready to take home

Collecting your work: immediately after the workshop or the next day
